How to modify Windows features to enable Hyper-V for BlueStacks 4

How will this help?

If you want to or happen to be using the version of BlueStacks that runs with Hyper-V enabled, the steps in this article will guide you on how you can do this. 

NOTE: If you download BlueStacks from the official website, the installer will automatically install the corresponding version of BlueStacks, depending on whether Hyper-V is enabled or disabled on your PC/Laptop. 


What steps should I follow?

1. First, click on the Search box present in the taskbar, as shown below.

2. Now, search for 'Control Panel'. Please click on the search result that will then appear, as illustrated below.

3. Within the Control Panel, click on Programs.

3.png 4. Next, select the option to Turn Windows features on or off, as displayed below.

5. The next step will vary depending on if you're using Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro.

If you're on:


Windows 10 Home

6. Once you have clicked on "Turn Windows features On or Off", a pop-up will then be shown. There are two checkboxes you will have to click on here. These are:

  • Virtual Machine Platform
  • Windows Hypervisor Platform

Please make sure you can see a tickbox in the box before these, as illustrated below.

7. Click on OK to save the changes you have made.

8. Hyper-V will now be enabled on your PC/Laptop. Please restart your PC/Laptop after following these steps after which you can start or install BlueStacks.

NOTE: If you still face an issue after following the steps above, there is another workaround which is explained below, to enable Hyper-V.

1. Search for "CMD", in the Windows search bar. 
2. Press "CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER" on your keyboard. You will then receive a pop-up to launch "Elevated Command Prompt". Click on "Yes".
3. Copy and paste the following command into the Elevated Command Prompt:
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all
4. Once the process is complete, press "Y", to restart your PC/Laptop. This will then enable Hyper-V.


Windows 10 Pro

6. After clicking on "Turn Windows features On or Off", a pop-up window will then appear. First, locate "Hyper-V". Once you have located that, click on the "+" sign beside it. You will then see two other options. Here, please click on the checkbox beside:

  • Hyper-V 
  • Hyper-V Management Tools
  • Hyper-V Platform

These are shown in the image below.

7. Lastly, click on "OK" to save these changes.

Hyper-V will now be enabled. Please restart your PC/Laptop after which you can either start or install BlueStacks.

NOTE: If you still face an issue after following the steps above, there is another workaround which is explained below, to enable Hyper-V.
