How to locate apps installed on BlueStacks 4 on your PC

How will this help?

This article will help you understand where all your apps installed on BlueStacks are saved on your computer.

Where is all the data for my BlueStacks 4 saved on my PC?

All the data for your apps on BlueStacks 4 is saved on the same drive on your computer on which you have installed BlueStacks.

By default, BlueStacks is installed on the C: drive. In such a case, the data for your installed apps will be saved at: C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks\Engine.

NOTE: This path is hidden and you might not be able to locate it directly. To view the files, please copy the path mentioned above and paste it in the address bar, as shown below. Then, press Enter.

At this location, you will see folders for different Android instances that you have created on your BlueStacks. Inside every folder, there will then be a file 'Data.vdi'.

'Data.vdi' stores all the information about apps installed on that particular instance of your BlueStacks. Please note that you will not be able to access specific information about each app installed on an instance of BlueStacks by using this file. The only way to access your data is by opening the app inside BlueStacks.

NOTE: Do not delete this file if you want to uninstall or delete some of the apps. Deleting 'Data.vdi' will result in unexpected behavior of BlueStacks and may cause errors or unintentional loss of important data.

Always uninstall or delete apps through your BlueStacks home screen only. To know how to do it, please read this article.

Have some questions?

Q. I think installing too many apps on BlueStacks is occupying a lot of space on my PC. What should I do to solve this?

A. If you have too many apps installed inside BlueStacks, then you should try uninstalling apps that you no longer use. This will help lower the use of disk space and improve your PC's performance.

Q. Can I change the app data or my in-game progress by accessing or altering 'Data.vdi' file?

A. No, that is not possible. In fact, trying to alter the data in 'Data.vdi' might result in a complete loss of information stored in the file. Thus, we highly recommend not to try this.

Q. Why is the 'ProgramData' folder hidden and why can't I access it directly?

A. Like many system folders on Windows, the 'ProgramData' folder is hidden by default since it contains sensitive app information. Deleting or changing the files inside it by mistake may result in the loss of crucial data and then, your system might not work properly.

Q. Is there a way to view the hidden system folders on Windows 10?

A. Yes. To know how to do it, please refer to the official support page of Microsoft.

Q. Is there a way to find the data related to a specific app on BlueStacks?

A. No. The data for all the apps is stored collectively in one file, 'Data.vdi'. The only way to access a specific app's data is by opening the app inside BlueStacks.
