How to enable Hyper-V on Windows for BlueStacks 5

NOTE: If Hyper-V is enabled and you're unable to launch the Hyper-V compatible version of BlueStacks 5, you can right-click on the BlueStacks 5 icon and select "Run as administrator".

How will this help?

You can use the Hyper-V compatible version of BlueStacks 5 by enabling Hyper-V through any of the following ways:

NOTE: Before enabling Hyper-V, please ensure that Virtualization is enabled on your desktop/laptop.

If you’re already using BlueStacks 5 with Hyper-V enabled, and come across the error shown below, simply right-click on the BlueStacks 5 icon and click on “Run as administrator”. To learn more, click here

How can I enable Hyper-V using the custom tool?

1. Download the custom tool to enable Hyper-V on your desktop/laptop. 

2. After it downloads, right-click on it and select "Run as administrator".

3. Once the process is completed, you will get a pop-up confirming the same. For the changes to take effect, click on "OK" to restart your desktop/laptop.

You'll now be able to use BlueStacks 5 with Hyper-V enabled. However, if you still see an "Incompatible Windows setting" error message, click here to resolve this.


How can I enable Hyper-V through Windows settings?

1. On your desktop, search for "Turn Windows features on or off" and click on it in the search results.

NOTE: The appearance of the search menu may vary depending upon the version of Windows you are using.

2. Enable all of the options from below that are present on the list of Windows Features for your computer.

NOTE: You may not see some of the options listed below as they are dependent on the version of Windows installed on your computer. You can enable the options from the list that are available for you.

  • Hyper V
  • Virtual Machine Platform
  • Windows Hypervisor Platform
  • Windows Sandbox
  • Windows Subsystem for Linux

3. After enabling all of the Windows features applicable for your desktop/laptop, click on "OK".

4. Windows will need to restart your desktop/laptop to apply the changes. Click on "Restart now" to proceed.

You'll now be able to use BlueStacks 5 with Hyper-V enabled. However, if you still see an "Incompatible Windows setting" error message, click here to resolve this.


How can I enable Hyper-V through the Command Prompt?

1. Search for "CMD", in the Windows search bar.

2. Once you find Command Prompt in the search results, click on "Run as administrator".

3. Copy and paste the following command into the Elevated Command Prompt and press "Enter":
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all

4. Once the process is complete, press "Y" to restart your desktop/laptop.

You'll now be able to use BlueStacks 5 with Hyper-V enabled. However, if you still see an "Incompatible Windows setting" error message, click here to resolve this.


What should I do if I still can't launch BlueStacks 5?

Q. I'm getting an "Incompatible Windows settings" error message even though Hyper-V is enabled. What should I do?

A. If you're unable to launch BlueStacks 5 even after Hyper-V is enabled:

  • Right-click on the BlueStacks 5 icon
  • Select "Run as administrator"

Q. I'm unable to launch a specific instance after Hyper-V has been enabled. What should I do?

A. If you're unable to launch a specific instance after enabling Hyper-V, you can resolve this by doing the steps mentioned below. However, please note that you will only be able to play on Nougat 64-bit or Pie 64-bit instances if Hyper-V is enabled.

  • Right-click on the "Multi-instance Manager" icon on your desktop and select "Run as administrator"
  • Click on "Start" in front of the instance you wish to launch
